The 18th Vietnamese Open Taekwondo Championships 2010 will take place at Phan Dinh Phung Stadium in Ho Chi Minh City from July 21-23.

The tournament is expected to attract more than 200 martial artists, including 76 women, from the Republic of Korea, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, France, Monaco and Vietnam.

Vietnam will send 78 martial artists divided into three teams – the national squad, the Ho Chi Minh City team and a team from the central provinces

The tournament will provide an opportunity for Vietnam to prepare for the forthcoming 2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou, China .

After the Vietnam Open, Ho Chi Minh City will also host the 2nd Asian International Taekwondo Federation (ITF) Championships from July 23-25, which is expected to draw 80 martial artists from Japan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, New Zealand, India, Indonesia, China, Afghanistan, Nepal and Vietnam.

The martial artists will compete in 12 performance and 10 fighting events.

To prepare for the tournament, the Vietnamese team is currently being trained by Mariusz Steckiewicz, an ITF expert from Poland. (VNA)
